Introduction

In the rich tapestry of Hindu traditions, Govardhan Puja holds a special place, celebrated with great fervor and devotion. This sacred ritual centers around the worship of Govardhan Hill, a manifestation of Lord Krishna, and is marked by the chanting of specific mantras. In this blog, we delve into the essence of Govardhan Puja and explore the significance of its mantras.

The Spiritual Prelude

Govardhan Puja, also known as Annakut Puja, occurs on the fourth day of Diwali, symbolizing the victory of Lord Krishna over Indra, the god of rain and thunderstorms. Legend has it that the people of Gokul stopped worshiping Lord Indra and instead began worshiping Govardhan Hill for providing abundant natural resources. Angered by this, Indra unleashed a fierce storm, but Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan Hill on his little finger to shelter the villagers. In commemoration of this divine event, Govardhan Puja became an integral part of the Hindu calendar.
