To transpose data from rows to columns (or vice versa) in Excel, you can use the Transpose feature. Here’s how you can do it:

Select the data you want to transpose. This can be a range of cells or an entire row/column.

Right-click on the selected data and choose “Copy” from the context menu, or press Ctrl+C to copy the data.

Copy data

Right-click on the cell where you want to paste the transposed data. Make sure this cell is outside the original range of data.

In the context menu, click on the “Paste Special” option, or you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+V.

In the Paste Special dialog box, check the “Transpose” option located in the bottom-right corner.

Transpose option

Click on the “OK” button. The data will be pasted in the transposed form, switching the rows to columns or vice versa.

Alternatively, you can use the TRANSPOSE function in Excel to achieve the same result. Here’s how:

  1. Select a range of cells that will accommodate the transposed data. Make sure the number of rows and columns is appropriate for the transposed data.
  2. In the first cell of the transposed range, enter the formula “=TRANSPOSE(original_range)”, replacing “original_range” with the range containing the data you want to transpose. For example, if the original data is in cells A1:D5, the formula would be “=TRANSPOSE(A1:D5)”.
  3. Press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to enter the formula as an array formula. Excel will automatically populate the transposed data in the selected range.

The TRANSPOSE function is useful when you want to transpose data dynamically, as any changes made to the original data will be reflected in the transposed range.
